Camsell Portage sits on the north-central shore of Lake Athabasca, in the far northwest corner of Saskatchewan. It is an unincorporated community in the Northern Administration District, and it is now considered a ghost town.
For years it was one of the few fly-in communities served by the school division. In winter, residents could reach Uranium City by snowmobile, and a road links the settlement to Waterloo Lake. The school closed on June 26, 2007, because too few students were enrolled. Even so remote a spot had satellite television and high-speed internet.
East of the community, SaskPower runs the Athabasca System hydroelectric stations: the Charlot River, Waterloo and Wellington dams and power stations.
